Verano Puma 2022

The UNAM- Boston received 14 students to spend three enriching weeks in the Summer Puma 2022. With a much more encouraging health outlook, this latitude kicks off the summer with dozens of activities at the door.

From June 13rd to 30th Sofía, Andrea, Fernanda, Andrea, Alejandra, Celeste, Avril, Ivette, Marcela, Romina, Sebastián, Toño, José Fernando, and José Eduardo were able to enjoy a total immersion in the English language, in the culture of New England, and the academic world of the dynamic city of Boston.

The days began with virtual talks by Mexican professors, students, and professionals based in Boston, addressing issues of academic life and the different possibilities of studying in the US for our cougars.

A continuación, las y los jóvenes se reunían con nuestro muy admirado y querido profesor de inglés, Evan Smith, para tener una clase de idioma extraordinaria en el sentido literal de la palabra, es decir, fuera de lo común.

Next, the young people met with our much admired and beloved English teacher, Evan Smith, to have an extraordinary language class in the literal sense of the word, that is, out of the ordinary.

The middle of the week the group met in a classroom to follow dialectical pedagogical dynamics, full of different multimedia tools to support the development of their learning and practice of English and New England.

The other half of the classes were held in the streets, parks, museums, and the rest of the city. Walking, they discovered the historical, social, artistic, architectural, cultural and environmental layers of Boston while they tested their knowledge of English and empirically absorbed all the knowledge that the city has to offer.

In the afternoons, academic visits were made to renowned institutions: North-eastern University, MIT, and the welcoming Mexican Consulate in Boston. In addition, no opportunity was lost to continue exploring the cities of Boston and Cambridge and we followed a cultural agenda so that the students continued discovering and learning, this allowed an extraordinary integration in the group that paid off to follow entertaining and fun dynamics.

The cultural agenda was supported by a couple of volunteers, UMass Boston students, Anthony and José, who became indispensable friends of the program.

Thanks to the virtual practices that the pandemic has left us, Summer Puma did not stop for those students who could not travel to the United States and enjoyed an intensive series of 25 hours of classes in English, culture and history of New England, and introduction to different academic and labor practices in the region.

The headquarters says goodbye to the group grateful for their energy, encouragement and hunger for learning and reminds them that home will always be here.
