Julieta Norma Fierro Gossman (1948 - 2025)
Conocida como Julieta Fierro, fue una física, astrónoma y divulgadora científica mexicana.
Tuvo el nombramiento como investigadora titular del Instituto de Astronomía de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) y profesora de la Facultad de Ciencias de esa universidad. Perteneció al Sistema Nacional de Investigadores nivel III, y desde el 2004, ocupó la silla XXV de la Academia Mexicana de la Lengua.
Su trabajo de investigación se concentró en la materia interestelar, y sus trabajos más recientes se refieren al sistema solar. Sin embargo, su labor más destacada fue la divulgación de la ciencia. Tuvo tres doctorados honoris causa; además, varios laboratorios, bibliotecas, planetarios, sociedades astronómicas y escuelas llevan su nombre.
Known as Julieta Fierro, she was a Mexican physicist, astronomer, and science divulgator. She was appointed senior researcher at the Institute of Astronomy of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and professor at the Faculty of Sciences of that university. She belonged to the National System of Researchers Level III, and since 2004, she held chair XXV of the Mexican Academy of Language.
Her research focused on interstellar matter, and her most recent work relates to the solar system. However, her most notable work was in the dissemination of science. She held three honorary doctorates, and several laboratories, libraries, planetariums, astronomical societies, and schools are named after her.
