The digital project “Tertulias at UNAM-Boston” is boosted all the way from Massachusetts
In the midst of health contingencies, and having academic and cultural face-to-face activities
suspended in higher education institutions worldwide, the headquarters of UNAM at Boston
launched the digital project: “Tertulias at UNAM-Boston”
During the second edition of Tertulias at UNAM-Boston, we will discuss the role of Spanish as a
heritage language in the United States. This is the case of millions of people that grew up
speaking Spanish at their home with their families and perhaps listening at it on TV soaps or
movies, but who were educated mostly in English therefore face the risk of forgetting their
heritage language due to lack of proper use because of several reasons, as it can be the fear of
discrimination or making mistakes, as well as the common misconception of many who think
that suppressing Spanish at home level will help their children integrate better to the American
society.
We invite the entire community to enjoy this new project from their University, any question or
suggestion is welcome at the email: info@boston.unam.mx
