Rincón UNAM en el Consulado de México en Boston

The Center for Mexican Studies of the UNAM in Boston opened at the Consulate General of Mexico in Boston the Rincon Cultura.UNAM, a project created and implemented in collaboration with the Coordination of Cultural Diffusion and the Coordination of International Relations and Affairs of the UNAM.
Download Cultura.UNAM, is a model that proposes a physical space in which they put reach of any person the digital programs of Culture of the University, as well as the collection of the site descarcultura.unam.mx, with very diverse contents in narrative, poetry, theater, music, history, as well as conferences, courses, science and other subjects, which can be consulted through a computer, through printed QR codes and through an application on mobile devices.
The opening ceremony was led by Dr. Alberto Fierro Garza, Consul General of Mexico Boston, who commented that this inauguration coincides with the Binational Education Week, organized by the Institute of Mexicans Abroad. This week is also celebrated throughout the United States International Education Week, organized by the State Department and the US Department of Education.
The UNAM was represented by the Director of the Center for Mexican Studies UNAM Boston, Benjamín Juárez Echenique, who stressed that in these spaces, not only the Spanish spoken in Mexico is promoted, since authors are also represented and academics from all Spanish-speaking countries and space is given to the different languages of Mexico, particularly in this year, 2019, declared the International Year of Indigenous Languages by the United Nations.
The Superintendent of the Boston Public Schools, Dr. Elia Bruggeman, stressed her commitment to providing access to the Spanish language, especially for heritage speakers, who frequently develop a deeper knowledge of English grammar and literature than the language and culture of their parents and grandparents, so Download Cultura.UNAM, is a relevant and very timely tool.
Ph.D. Bruggeman, who is Mexican, expressed her desire to link Boston's public schools with UNAM, the National Preparatory School and the Colleges of Science and Humanities. The event was attended by various academic and cultural personalities of the region.
The Mexican Consulate serves all the states of New England, there is a program of recurring visits to Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut, in addition to rural areas of western Massachusetts and from next week they will visit Vermont, the Download Culture Corner.
UNAM will accompany the consular services throughout this region that has a population of about 15 million inhabitants, the largest and fastest growing minority are precisely the "Latinos" or "Hispanics", totaling 1.5 million Mexicans and Latin American and Caribbean brothers.
