First Verano Puma at UNAM-Boston

Puma summer consists of intensive English or French courses taught during intersemestral periods at UNAM headquarters abroad. From 2012 to 2018, more than 4 thousand university students attended.

During the month of July 2019, the Puma Summer was held for the first time at UNAM-Boston, in coordination with the University of Massachusetts Boston, the institution that hosts this Headquarters. With the theme "Revolutionary Boston: Language, Culture, People!", Those enrolled in the course had the opportunity to practice and improve their level of English in an immersion environment for three weeks, in what is known as the educational capital of the United States.

In addition to the theoretical sessions of the language, the students were visited by personalities from different organizations, such as academics from educational institutions, officials from the Boston City Hall, migrant students within the DACA program, who gave talks in English on various topics; such as start-ups and innovation, personal experiences of migrants in the United States, the relationship between the Boston government with the Latin American community, academic papers on migration, science, higher education; among others.

Similarly, since the intention of the course was also to soak participants about the culture of New England, a series of visits to representative sites in the region were organized. For example, tours to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the John F. Kenedy Library, the historic city center; tours of universities such as Harvard, Boston and Massachusetts; attending a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, one of the oldest baseball stadiums in the country; Excursion to the historic town of Salem, to name a few.

This first edition of the Puma Summer sets the stage for future editions of the program and the launch of the first Puma Winter, which will take place during the month of January 2020.
